Many organizations eagerly engage in annual planning or longer-term strategic planning exercises, because it provides an opportunity to look forward and think about what’s possible. Quality outputs of these exercises often include ambitious goals and well-thought-out strategies, objectives, and tactics to achieve them.
Regardless of the quality of the plan, your organization’s ability to execute it is what ultimately determines future success.
The ability to execute in any organization requires talent that has both the will and ability to adapt their performance to achieve the new organizational goals.
When assessing your team’s ability to execute, here are 3 key questions to ask yourself:
1. How will my team need to perform differently in the future to accomplish the goals that have been set?
2. What skills and knowledge will my team need to have to be successful?
3. What types of training resources and experiences are best suited for my team to drive results?
As you can see, these questions are foundational to organizational success and having a winning talent strategy.
French writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery once said, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
I would further that statement by adding a plan without the right talent cannot be executed.
