In order for organizations to survive, they need to be able to effectively solve problems. While reactive organizations get stuck in a loop of solving mere symptoms, successful organizations develop a deep understanding of the root cause in order to properly identify a long-term solution. With the use of lean thinking, root cause analysis, and “the five why’s”, organizations everywhere are on a constant search for what is causing current performance and what will inhibit future performance.
Sometimes an outsider’s perspective is needed to identify the right problem
Identifying the right problem isn’t always easy for those in the thick of it. Sometimes the people closest to the issue are the least likely to see it staring them in the face. An outsider’s perspective gives the situation a fresh set of eyes and an opportunity for internal stakeholders to see things through different lens. It also gives organizations extra manpower, so that full-time employees aren’t taken away from their core job responsibilities to find the problem.
Develop a fundamental solution that addresses the right problem and all of its variables
After the right problem is found, a fundamental solution needs to be established to address all of the problem variables. This is where so many solutions fall short. Not only does the solution need to be designed to fit the culture of an organization, it needs to be implemented after those involved have been adequately trained and prepared for the change. This requires levels of organization and communication that often go unmet, leaving internal stakeholders unprepared and ultimately unable to fully support the solution.
How do we do things differently?
At SDI, we approach problem solving with a focus on people and the environment. We know that no solution can be successful unless all internal stakeholders understand the need for the change and are ready for it. We also know that ensuring the success of a solution takes a focus on design, implementation, and measurement, which is why we stand by our clients through every step.
