Curriculum Design
& development

Imagine you were considered supplying a department with new equipment. The goal is to enhance efficiency and improve ROI, but you know there is going to be a knowledge gap as the team acclimates to the new work. Would it make the most sense to choose the new equipment, or the training first? The answer probably seems obvious, so why do so many of us ignore this strategy when developing a training curriculum?

Z to A

When SDI designs a curriculum, we begin at the end. That means that before a single training tool is developed, we determine exactly what individuals in specific job roles will need to succeed. Once those outcomes have been identified, we assign the core competencies required for goal achievement and prioritize the skills needed to meet those goals. This approach results in a learning path that will allow an individual to progress and grow through the various performance levels in that role or function.

Since partnering with SDI, consistency has greatly increased, and a common approach to research, design, and the development of materials has been followed. This level of consistency, combined with roughly 80 newly developed courses per region and other materials such as instructor guides and the training “sandbox,” leads to much smoother training implementations.

Choreographed Creation

Curriculum development is a choreographed creation of an entire learning and performance experience that results in growth and development of talent while measuring their progress and role proficiency. A well-designed curriculum will include formal and informal training, on the job elements, and regular measurement throughout the administration of the program.
