Senior Learning Consultant

 

Partner with SDI clients to research, design, and develop performance-based learning solutions. Identify and participate in activities to improve SD&D’s processes, procedures, templates, and tools. Manage and work within allotted budgets (time and money); identify when allotments aren’t adequate. Prioritize own work and that of others and negotiate conflicts within and across projects. Conduct self in a manner consistent with SDI’s brand promise and critical talent attributes, leading to high level of client satisfaction.

Within SDI, viewed as an expert in instructional design and adult learning theory based on breadth and depth of experience. Oversee the work of others to meet project needs. Functi0n effectively across a variety of delivery methods.

Primary Responsibilities

Research, Design, Develop and Implement Learning/Performance Solutions

  • Develop proposals or statements of work (including quotes) necessary to secure business for SDI
  • Lead and facilitate internal and client meetings
  • Conduct appropriate research with client stakeholders and SMEs – including needs analysis, job task analysis, task analysis, etc. – using SDI’s standard approach, tools, and templates
  • Synthesize, summarize, and document research findings using SDI’s standard approach, tools, and templates (e.g., design specifications, survey reports, process maps, etc.)
  • Create macro solution designs that illustrate and provide the framework for how the SDI solution aligns to the clients’ expectations/needs and translates them into a concrete, practical solution
  • Lead internal solution discussions to generate design ideas
  • Lead client group design meetings provide design input during client working sessions
  • Create solution designs that include informational, interactive, instructional, and interface design strategies as appropriate
  • Manage the completion of the project plan including managing the quality, schedule, budget, and performance of people on the team (this may include doing the work as appropriate)

Develop Talent

  • Introduce team members to the SDI culture and brand promise
  • Assess staffing needs of team and adjust project assignments appropriately
  • “Build a bench” by effectively coaching and developing employees to maximize productivity, job satisfaction, and future organizational fit
    • Set and communicate job role expectations
    • Assess development needs
    • Facilitate the development of junior ISD/Consultants on SDI’s performance improvement and instructional design process/model, tools and methodology
  • Ensure SDI core processes are followed and tools are used; lead by example

Build & Sustain Relationships

  • Be viewed by the client, at the level appropriate to this position, as a partner who understands the needs of the organization
  • Explain SDI’s performance improvement and instructional design process/model and methodology
  • Recommend multiple performance solutions to meet the client’s needs, and help them understand the potential impact of their decisions
  • Manage client expectations and project scope and keep client informed of progress and issues

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters degree in business administration, human performance, or the equivalent
  • 6+ years as a consultant with experience owning completion of the primary responsibilities listed above
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written, oral presentation, and client engagement skills; attention to detail

Instructional Designer

Primary Responsibilities

Build & Sustain Relationships

  • Be viewed by the client, at the level appropriate to this position, as a partner who understands the needs of the organization.
  • Explain SDI’s instructional design process/model/methodology.
  • Recommend multiple performance solutions to meet the client’s needs, and help them understand the potential impact of their decisions.

Conduct Research

  • Write statements of work for smaller projects and/or provide ISD expertise during the writing of complex proposals.
  • Participate in or lead kickoff meetings.
  • Conduct appropriate research with client stakeholders and SMEs – including needs analysis, job task analysis, task analysis, etc. – using SDI’s standard approach, tools, and templates.
  • Translate client expectations and requirements into concrete, practical solutions.
  • Determine whether client requests or requirements violate ISD methodology and consult with client and/or SDI project manager to resolve the violation.
  • Write macro design specifications, including background/need for the learning intervention, target audience descriptions, topical flow, terminal and enabling objectives, appropriate delivery method(s), and program and organizational constraints that will affect the design, development, or roll-out of the training course.
  • Synthesize, summarize, and document other research findings using SDI’s standard approach, tools, and templates(e.g., survey reports or process maps)

Design Performance Solutions

  • Lead internal solution discussions to generate design ideas.
  • Lead client group design meetings Provide design input during client working sessions.
  • Create solution design documents and/or storyboards, including informational, interactive, instructional, and interface design as appropriate.
  • Cycle content to derive core concepts in support of learning objectives.
  • Determine appropriate media requirements to meet objectives.
  • Determine the appropriate format for instructor and/or participant materials and explain rationale.

Develop Performance Solutions

  • Develop solution deliverables per specifications outlined during design, in a cost effective manner.
  • Write instructor and participant materials in a number of different formats.
  • Mentor program developers.
  • Proofread/edit own work and that of others (e.g., technical developer, graphic support) against design spec and/or client feedback, including grammar, context, punctuation, etc.
  • Recognize and communicate indications that solution elements may be going out of scope.
  • Lead train-the-trainer sessions.
  • Support or help facilitate pilot sessions.

Implement Solutions and Measure Success

  • Attend and support solution implementation as requested by the client.
  • Support day-to-day client and project management as necessary
  • Develop evaluation strategies and materials to measure solution impact on performance and business results
  • Attend or lead project close meetings

Senior Developer

 

As a Senior Developer, you will partner with SDI clients to research, design, and develop performance-based technical learning solutions. Identify and participate in activities to improve SD&D’s processes, procedures, templates, and tools. Work within allotted budget (time and money); identify when allotments aren’t adequate. Prioritize own work and negotiate conflicts within and across projects. Keep abreast of new technologies and keep SDI solutions “cutting edge.” Conduct self in a manner consistent with SDI’s brand promise and critical talent attributes, leading to high level of client satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities

Support Sales and Project Initiation Activities

  • Act as a resource to SDI leadership and project managers to develop technical specifications for proposals/ statements of work.
  • Be viewed by the client, at the level appropriate to this position, as a partner who understands the needs of the organization.
  • Provide a strong, educated point-of-view during the sales process regarding best technical options to meet the client’s needs.
  • Keep SDI leadership updated on current technology trends etc. so there is an aligned point of view during client conversations.

Conduct Research

  • Participate in kickoff meetings.
  • Collaborate with instructional designer to specify creative and technical elements of learning and performance support solutions.
  • Research client technology specs (e.g., LMS constraints) that may have an impact on feasibility of technical solutions.
  • Conduct appropriate research re: client technical specifications and system requirements.
  • Internally, continually research the latest technologies and most effective and efficient ways to provide cutting-edge technical solutions.

Design Technical Solutions

  • Participate in internal solution discussions to generate technical design ideas.
  • Derive interactive design ideas from solutions specifications and design documents that will effectively deliver, provide practice for and test essential content.
  • Participate in client group design meetings; lead technical aspects of the meeting.
  • Provide technical design input during client working sessions.

Develop Technical Solutions

  • Create or provide input into design interfaces for eLearning modules.
  • Develop solution deliverables per specifications outlined during design, in a cost effective manner, using SDI and client-approved authoring software (e.g., Lectora, Captivate, Articulate, Flash) and platforms (HTML5).
  • Prototype, refine, and standardize interactions for broad application within web-based solutions.
  • Provide/document technical solution standards and communicate to other technical resources.
  • Proofread/edit own work and that of others (e.g., other technical resources, audio and graphic support) against design spec and/or client feedback, including grammar, context, punctuation, etc.
  • Recognize and communicate indications that solution elements may be going out of scope.
  • Attend and/or support deliverable review meetings.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing and ensure resolution of any and all technical issues prior to final publishing.

Implement Solutions and Measure Success

  • Publish final solution components and assist clients with loading to their learning management system.
  • Support solution implementation as requested by the client.
  • Consult with client team to identify, troubleshoot and continuously improve deployment and administration of solutions.
  • Support day-to-day client and project management as necessary.
  • Attend project close meetings.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Degree in instructional development, programming, or the equivalent
  • 5+ years developing technical solutions with experience owning completion of the tasks listed above
  • Proficiency using eLearning authoring software (e.g., Lectora, Captivate, Creative Suite)
  • Proficiency in HTML5, CSS, WordPress
  • Excellent written and oral presentation, and attention to detail
